Origin:Latin
Meaning:City of canals
Venitia appears to be as unique a girl's name as the city they're named after. Venitia, a variant of Venetia, is of Latin origin and means the "city of canals" in honor of the beautiful floating city of Venice. Though not a well-known name, the fame Venetia Burney found was quite quirky. In 1930, after hearing about the discovery of a yet-to-be-named dwarf planet, a grandfather asked his granddaughter what she would call it. When she responded, "Pluto," he liked the idea. And he had some friends in high places. From May 1, 1930 onwards, Venetia became known as "the girl who named Pluto." She has shown baby Venitia that it's possible to shoot for the stars.
